Porthmadog Cob to Borth-y-Guest

  A morning walk on 4th November 2004

Click on images to enlarge, [x] to return.

Left: 8.30am. The Britannia Stores, for once without a "For Sale" sign, is  close to the Britannia bridge.

Right: Looking towards Snowdonia from the Britannia Bridge, there are reflections in the River Glaslyn.

Left:  The Tourist Information Office is across the road, with the harbour to the left.

Right: Looking across the mirror like harbour towards the open sea. The boat yards are on the right, beyond the apartments.

Left: Some years ago, Euro money was used to create a harbour side recreational area. And pleasant and popular it is.

Right: In summer, the harbour entrance would be full of boats. But not so in November,

Left: The view across the Glaslyn estuary taken from the path beside the boatyards.  Portmeirion lies behind the headland across the bay.

Right: There are spectacular views of the estuary and the mountains from the headland.

Left: The leaves are still on the trees, and hiding this view of the local Chapel.

Right:  A very pleasant coastal path continues beyond Borth-y-Guest for half a mile or so.

Left: Another view across the bay. The path back to Porthmadog runs past the trees to the right:

Right: And from under those trees, a stream trickles into the bay. Then it was back up the hill and over the headland. Excellent excersize.

Left:  I keep on taking photos from along this path. The Wife says "not again, surely?"  Or words to that effect.

Right: This one at least is rather more interesting. The crane is used for lifting boats from the water.

Left: A selection of boats laid up for the winter.

Right: And several yachts. ditto.

Left: Looking across the almost empty harbour, from the  front of the  Yachting club.

Right: The door just visible at the extreme left of the photo is the front door to a holiday appartment at which we stayed in 1978.

Left: Another view of the "Euro money" area, which really is a credit to the town, and a very popular spot for summer visitors.

Right:  And another harbour view, this time  taken from beside the Harbourmasters office.

Left: The reverse of the third photo above. Looking  landwards from beside  Tourist Information.

Right: And my walk ended on the Cob, where it started. Just in time to see the 10.20am Ffestiniog Railway departure for Blaenau Ffestiniog.
