Tunis

The first port of call was at Tunis, the capital of the Tunis republic, on the North African Coast. It has a population of around 700,000, and it's economy is based on the manufacture of Textiles, Carpets, and Olive Oil. It is connected to the Meditteranean by a canal.

We chose to remain on the ship, and the few photographs below were taken from the top deck. Those who did visit the town seemed divided between 1) A fascinating place, not to be missed, and 2) Full of street vendors and beggars, never want to go there again.
