Bardolino is situated on the east shore of Lake Garda, and lies at the foot of rolling hills covered with orchards, olive groves, and vineyards. A lakeside promenade links it with it's neighbour, Garda, 2 miles to the north. The atmosphere of the lively town is distinctly Mediterranean, with many terrace cafes, bars, and restaurants. It has narrow, traffic free streets, a flower surrounded promenade, several parks, a bustling harbour, and many fine shops. There are frequent ferries and hydrofoils connecting with other resorts. At night the resort comes alive: the promenades are full of strollers, there is music in the town, and the cafes and restaurants serve their Ice Creams, their Pizzas, and their local Fish dishes. Altogether, Bardolino is a sheer delight.

 BARDOLINO TOWN & WATERFRONT

We found the relaxed though lively atmosphere of Bardolino much to our liking. We particularly enjoyed our daytime and evening promenade walks, both to the south, towards Lazise, but more usually to the north, towards Garda. The town was full of interest, with it's Leather, Food, and Gift shops. Although we visited several other resorts, our daily itinerary always included a walk through the town, a coffee at a pavement cafe, a look round the harbour, an Ice cream (or two), and a sit down on the promenade. Thursday was market day, and the stalls stretched the full length of the promenade (about 1 mile), and beyond.

 HOTEL PARC GRITTI

Our Hotel, The Parc Gritti, was carefully chosen. Internet research revealed that It was located a short distance from the town, and overlooked the lake. There were Buffet style Hot and Cold Meals.  The Hotel proved an excellent choice. It was a large and modern, with 260 bedrooms. Ours was on the second floor, most comfortable, and faced south, though we did not have a Lake view. We chose to dine Buffet style; the meals were reasonable but we had hoped for Traditional Italian dishes, eg plenty of Pastas and Pizzas. We used the coffee lounges and poolside areas extensively. Service was excellent: the local Italian's being friendly and full of humour.
